While visiting our website perhaps you would like to explore the
possibility of adopting a horse. You will not find an Olympic Jumper, a
trained Cow Horse, a world Class Dressage Candidate, or a Champion 3-
Day Eventer at our barn. What you will find are wonderful horses
looking for a good home and a second chance at happiness. Adoption fees
vary according to the age and ability of the horse.
Our goal is to place every one of our “guests” that walk through our
doors into a permanent loving home where they can spend the rest of
their lives. Due to this goal, our adoption coordinator will ask you some
very frank questions about:
~ Your goals in adopting an equine family member
~ Your experience and knowledge of equine care
~ Your intended use of your horse
~ Your riding experience
~ Your plans for housing your new companion
~ Your financial ability to meet the on-going monthly expense
(the adoption fee is the least expensive part of your journey)
After an initial phone interview you will be invited to visit the barn and
meet the guest horses that are available for adoption. Upon choosing a
horse you will be asked to visit and interact with him/her regularly to
guarantee a “good fit” for both you and the horse. If you decide to move
forward with the adoption, you will complete an adoption form enabling a
FODHRA staff member to contact your vet with any questions and
allowing us to visit the area where the horse will be kept.
FODHRA will work with you and your family over the next two years to
ensure the match is working for both you and your horse. At the end of
the two-year period FODHRA will transfer ownership of the horse to its
new family.
