WINSTON
Our first "guest" was a wonderful 16 hand 25-year-old gelding named Winston. Winston was brought to our
facility from a very loving owner that was moving out of state. His wonderful family had taken him in four
months earlier for their kids who were leery around horses and were hoping he would build their
confidence around horses. When they had the Vet out to check him for the trip, he announced that he would
not be able to live through the trip due to his being so thin and severe arthritis. The loving owner had done
but it was not enough. They contacted Field of Dreams asking for our help in placing Winston into a new
home. She was clearly heart broken at the thought of moving out of state and not being able to take him
with her other horses. We offered to rehab Winston for two months to see if we could address his arthritis
and improve his flexibility to allow him to travel. For two months we provided Winston with alternative and
conventional therapies. In early December, Winston was pronounced fit enough to travel and made the
12-hour drive to be reunited with his two equine girlfriends and human family. We were deeply touched by
the love his family had for him and the lengths that they went to in order to keep him in their family.
JACK
Jack is a 15-year-old 15.3 hand chestnut quarter horse gelding. He came to us on 9/28/06, only two days
home. He had been purchased to be a pasture buddy for a horse that had cancer. He had not been ridden
for three years due to severe leg issues and was a perfect gentleman to his girlfriend for three years before
she passed on. The owner was going through a divorce and could no longer keep him. At this point he had
not been ridden for at least six years and has severe navicular and contracted tendons. He was very gimpy
much exercise even though he had a beautiful five-acre pasture for just two horses. Since he has arrived,
we have been very aggressive with massage therapy, oils, herbs, and Reiki. Since he has buddied up with
Danny and is playfully moving around a lot more, he has worked out many kinks and is even galloping
around the pastures. It has only been a few months and we are all so impressed with his progress. Again,
he may only be able to be a pasture buddy and never be able to be ridden, but he has an incredible spirit
and time will tell.

Jack has made incredible progress and three of his legs are working perfectly. The fourth leg has a little
ways to go but we are all confident that with Jack's incredible will to get better - he will be rideable within a
year. Many people would have given up on him but all of our wonderful volunteers believed in him and he is
doing wonderful. A huge congratulations to Jennifer & Jack and their new adventure together.
Pumpkin
Pumpkin came to us on 10/10/07. Pumpkin is a 9 year old 14.1 hand chestnut quarter horse mare.
Pumpkin had been a show pony and could no longer stay sound for jumping. The vets did not think she
would stay sound and it was suggested that she be put to sleep. The owners and their trainer had decided
good friend of Field of Dreams who agreed to keep her even if she would never be sound again. She is out
in a pasture with five other horses, has a boyfriend, and is now completely sound and ride-able. Pumpkin
has found her forever home.
Dell
Savannah's best friend was Dell. Dell is a beautiful 24-year-old 15.1 hand dark bay thoroughbred type
mare who was relinquished by her owners in hopes that she would find a new family to call her own. She
was a family pet for 12 years until all the kids left home and she needed more kids to call her own. She
helps teach all the new volunteers how to work with horses. She has an incredible amount of patience,
great ground manners and puts up with all of the newcomers training mistakes. Dell has helped with Girl
Scout troops, birthday parties, and all the "nervous" newcomers. We are blessed and honored to have her
at Field of Dreams to teach us all a thing or two. She definitely has a halo over her head!!! She has been
very lucky to have been adopted by the Behnke family. Dell will be remaining at Field of Dreams so we can
continue to enjoy her wonderful spirit.
CHIEF
Our second guest is Chief, a beautiful 8-year-old 16 hand red and white paint gelding. Chief was injured
His owner was not able to keep him during this rehabilitation and was very concerned that he be well taken
care of and receives the proper medical care. We are pleased to say that Chief has made wonderful shock
wave therapy twice, chiropractic care, and alternative treatments on his muscles and tendons. Chief is
know as the barn clown and has a wonderful playful personality. He often does not realize that he can no
longer jump three foot fences. Chief has found his permanent life long home once his rehabilitation is
finished. Chief has found his permanent life long home - he went to his new home on Dec 12th, 2006.
GREY SEA
has severe navicular in her left front hoof. Another story of a very dedicated, loving owner that due to
financial reasons could not provide the medical care that she needed. When she came to Field Of Dreams,
Grey Sea is an amazing 12-year-old 16 hand Grey thoroughbred mare that came to us severely lame. She
she could barely walk on her left front leg. Today, eight months later, she can make heads turn with her
beautiful extended trot. Grey Sea is in rehabilitation and the vet says she may never heal to the point of
becoming a riding horse again. Her spirit says otherwise and time will tell. Even the vet is impressed with
her progress. She, like Dell, is one of the horses we use with Scout troops, birthday parties, and all the
"nervous" newcomers. Grey Sea is still looking for her permanent life long home that may be just around
the corner. She has a very interested party working with her now to see if she is the "one".

As of 4/1/07 Grey Sea found her "forever home" with one of our volunteer coordinator, Addie Stras. Grey Sea
was x-rayed before she was adopted and the vet pronounced her sound and ride-able. He said "that in
these situations the most you can hope for is that they don't get any worse", but in this case she has
actually improved. Grey Sea is complete sound, ride-able, and running like the wind in the pastures.
RIO
Rio is a 14-year-old 16.3 hand blood bay paint gelding that had leg problems in three of his legs. He could
no longer be ridden for show dressage and the owner wanted to find him a permanent home where he
could be pleasure ridden. We were lucky enough to place our newest guest into a home within two weeks
to evaluate their temperament and health, our very own President Sue Balla adopted him. We know that he
has his forever home and is receiving the best of care.
DANNY
Danny is a 17-year-old 16 hand bay thoroughbred/quarter horse gelding. He came to us on 9/26/06 from a
home where he had only been for five months. He had been purchased as an "extra" horse so friends
could come and ride. The young lady went to college and no longer had time for her horse or Danny. She
contacted us in hopes we could find him his forever home. Danny came in and did not show much
personality since we were his third home in six months. It did not take him long to cozy up to all the
wonderful volunteers that were full of hugs to welcome him to Field of Dreams. He had some slight leg
problems but since he has been with us, he is sound and has found his forever home with one of our very
own Board of Directors, Chris Biederer.
SWEET PEA
Sweet Pea's former owner was an elderly woman who died from Cancer. We received a emergency phone
call from one of the vets about Sweet Pea. She had not been handled in years and had lived with some
cows in the field. She came into our lives with those huge beautiful ears and was so thankful for all the
attention and love all the volunteers gave her. Her feet had not been done in at least a year and were
curling up. Our wonderful shoer did an incredible work with. They were taking care of all the animals at the
farm and wanted to know if we could take Sweet Pea.  Sweet Pea is a wonderful donkey of unknown age
that came into our lives for a short time. She was only with us for 2 weeks before she went to her forever
home to our neighbor's next door. She came in on 3/26/07 and was adopted on 4/9/07 and took a piece of
our hearts with her and will be forever welcome to come back.
HONEY BUN
Honey Bun is a beautiful dark Chocolate Palamino pony. She came from a pony ride business that had
decided she wasn't useful anymore. She was born on the property and is 17 years old and had worked for
them all her life. Now she was no longer usable for their purposes so they were going to send her to the
killers. Again, one of the vets we worked with had called us to see if we could take her and save her life.
She came in on 4/15/07 with her hooves turning up as they had not been trimmed in at least a year. Our vet
took x-rays the day she arrived and found that she had not foundered as they had thought. Our wonderful
shoer kept checking the x-rays we had the vet take and again, did a wonderful job at getting her on flat
ground again. She had dried mud and manure caked on her belly and legs - it took three sudsy baths to
get all of it off as it had adheared to her skin. On 5/13/07 she was adopted to a wonderful loving home
where she is safe and loved and can spend the rest of her days.
PEPPER
Update! We are happy to announce that Pepper was adopted on 6/24/07 to his forever home. He will be
sharing his new home with three horses and tons of love. We told his new owners we may be getting 10
more ponies from the same organization in the fall that need to be retired so they may be adopting another
with lots of hugs and kisses. He was only here three weeks but he made incredible progress in learning to
Pepper is a small dark bay pony approximately 25 years old that arrived at FOD on 6/4/07. He came from a
pony ride business that put ponies on the "wheel" where they go round and round for hours giving kids
rides. He was not well cared for and his feet had not been trimmed in months. He is very thin, and its very
hard to find a thin pony as they can practically live on air, and he was terrified of people. It is quite apparent
he had been beaten and kicked as he would flinch from every little movement. We had the vet out to check
his teeth and they had not been done in years. He had two bottom teeth that looked like walrus tusks that
were so long they were poking into his top gums. With a lot of love and kindness he is learning to love and
trust again.
Chevy
Chevy lived most of his life on a "wheel" giving kids rides. He came to us because he was done doing his
job. He had a terrible infection on success. When we received Chevy he had lost weight and was weak
from the infection. Dr. Kresse performed surgery to close the hole in his face and he also treated the
severe infection. Three weeks later you could not tell there had been any infection on his face. He gained
his needed weight back and was running around the pasture with our biggest horse Rio as a buddy. On
Nov 23rd, Chevy was adopted to his forever home to live his life out with three VERY friendly goats and five
dogs that are mostly bigger than him. Chevy hit the pony lottery by being adopted by Mike & Lynette.
Congratulations to Chevy and his new family of many :)
Rio
Zack
Our congratulations to Zack and his new family.  Zack was adopted and went to his new
and final home on Saturday July 18th, 2009.  Zack is definitely one of the lucky ones.  He
came to us after a long life of working hard as a race horse, open jumper, hunter/jumper,
and school horse.  He is now retired to the good life with his final family to love him for
the rest of his life.  We strive for the same kind of luck for all our horses that Zack has
found!!  We all have mixed emotions when a horse leaves FOD but we know that he is
close by and we can visit anytime.  Our best wishes to Zack and Cindy, Frank, Shawn,
and Ryan.
Jori
Our congratulations to Jori and Dawn.  Jori was adopted to her new family on August 1,
2009 and has moved to a larger barn with many new friends.  Jori was bred and raced
for a short time prior to coming to FOD, and now she can spend the rest of her days with
a wonderful human companion and several equine friends.  Since Jori is only six years
old, so she will have plenty of years to ride, jump, and hit the trails with Dawn.  Our best
wishes to Jori and Dawn.
