Our volunteer program is our survival program. We are a unique horse rescue in the fact that our
volunteers do NOT have to have experience working with horses to be able to volunteer with us.
Many of our volunteers have never been around horses – they just have always loved them and
have wanted to be around them. Our program gives them a chance to help a horse and learn all
about them. They get to learn how to handle a horse, learn how to feed them and groom them.
Many of our “guests” need rehab work and some of the volunteers have learned how to do some
basic massage work along with energy work. Many of our most devoted volunteers had NO previous
experience with horses. We also have many volunteers that have had experience with horses but cannot afford
a horse of their own at this time. They get the satisfaction of helping a horse in need and get their “horse fix” at
the same time. We also have several people that have been great at helping with the fundraising end of FOD.
Without the money – we can’t help any horses. Without our great volunteers we would not have been able to
help the amount of horses we have.

Can I help at the barn? - We are always in need of volunteers to
help at the barn. No experience is necessary. One of the goals of
our organization is to provide education to families that may be
considering getting a horse. Volunteering at Field of Dreams is a
great way to evaluate if getting a horse is right for your family. If
the answer is yes - you can also evaluate the pro's and con's of
keeping a horse on your own property or stabling. Keep in mind
that any equine activity is dangerous. Each volunteer will be
required to review and sign a waiver prior to training. Training
will be provided on handling horses, grooming horses, nutrition,
and general rehabilitation of horses.
Fundraising - Because we are
nonprofit volunteer organization
all funds are received by
donations, grants, or membership
fees. Fundraising is, and has to be,
an ongoing effort. We must
continually have fundraiser events
or we cannot pay our bills- which
means we cannot help the horses.
Without fundraising - we cannot
survive.
Grant Writing - There are many
organizations that provide grants
to animal rescue organization. We
need volunteers to investigate,
identify, write, and submit grants.
All Around - Everything... the list
goes on and on...
Will I get to ride horses? – Unfortunately no – the majority of horses
received at FODHRA need rehabilitation from injury or sickness. In
addition, until we have had the horse at the facility for 60 days we
cannot properly evaluate it's temperament and the level of riding
experience that will be required. Only the board members will be
riding to evaluate skill and temperament. However, we do work with
several local stables to provide riding lessons to volunteers that are
interested in learning or improving their riding skills.
