Field of Dreams Horse Rescue and Adoption

Penny was saved by her previous owner from the slaughter floor. She was headed for disaster and then
her Earth Angel rescued her. It was quite apparent she had been severely abused and was frightened of
everyone and everything. Her Angel loved her and worked with her for a couple years to try to get her
over the fear. Then the young lady could no longer afford to keep her and she lovingly came to Sue
before FOD was officially started. Penny was adopted out and returned a year later as she developed
breathing problems that the owner did not want to deal with. She had felt abandoned by more than
one person in her lifetime but here she was accepted just as she was and loved unconditionally. There is
no doubt that when Penny crossed over the Rainbow Bridge she knew she was adored and loved by
many. Although she had problems breathing here on earth, she has been adopted by the best into God’s
barn and is breathing freely and running like the wind in the greenest pastures you can possibly
imagine. Penny brought us much and taught us even more and we are forever thankful that she came
here, to us, to spend the rest of her days At Field of Dreams. Thank you and Bless you Penny! It has
been an honor and you will be missed.

Peanuts came to Field of Dreams on 10/5/06 and crossed over the Rainbow Bridge to his Field of
Dreams on 5/3/08. Peanuts was a 14 hand Palamino Quarter Horse gelding that was at least 30
years old when he came to us. His owner came into a hardship and abandoned his horse at the
boarding facility he was at. The boarding facility let him stay in the pasture for 16 months after the
owner disappeared. At that time they said it was time for him to leave. The new barn manager called
us. We took him knowing that he may never be adopted but we all believed “no one should die alone in
a field”. We definitely were the winners here. He was the sweetest, cutest, little guy and the BEST
with the kids and thought he was in heaven at FOD - but now he will be missed as he really has found
his way to heaven. He went from no one looking at him for 16 months, to tons of kids and adults
smothering him with hugs, kisses, and treats. Peanuts was living at a FOD foster home his last 3
months owned by Kelli & Jeff Zopfi who were taking care of him and Buster for us. We received the
call that Peanuts was down and Addie, Chris, and I rushed to be by his side along with Kelli, Jeff,
Danna, and Kelli's parents. Peanuts did anything but die alone in a field as his was surrounded by all
the us crying our eyes out over him leaving to say nothing of all the volunteers that have shed a tear
due to his passing. Many new nervous volunteers learned to trust horses due to Peanuts. It was a
blessing for us to have him as a “quest” here and he will always be remembered. We were the ones
that were truly touched by an Angel!!!

Gramps was 25 years old when he came to Field of Dreams from a home where 50 other ponies lived
together in mud and manure. He had sores on his back and was crusted with filth. He was very thin
and tired from his long life of working on the wheel giving kids pony rides. We had our vet out and it
was determined that he had probably never had his teeth floated which caused large sores in his mouth
and his inability to digest food correctly. He came in with another pony, a terrified one year old named
Izek. Gramps was the reason Izek survived. He was his comfort zone, his protector, and his friend.
Gramps had the patient of a saint!! He let Izek jump all over him and play bit him all day and
tolerated every minute of it because he loved him.
He will be remembered for his kindness, patient, and gentleness. And he had the smallest ears we had
ever seen. He crossed over in my arms on 1/9/09 and I am thankful Field of Dreams was able to be
there for him in his last year of life.
Thank you Gramps for honoring us with your presence and helping save Izek’s life. Due to you, Izek is
friendly, happy, and healthy and will continue for 30 more years. You were Izek’s Guardian Angel on
earth. Now be at peace with your Angels.
Sue Balla inherited all five cats that were living at Field of Dreams when she first leased the barn
six years ago. Furby was, by far, the friendliest. He greeted every person who walked through
the door and was more than willing to let everyone carry him around all day. This was not easy
as he weighed close to 20 pounds. He also invited the raccoons, possums, and stray cats in for
a meal. He showed them right where the kitty food was. Furby disappeared one day in early
June and was never seen again. We know that Furby is happy where ever he is. He is missed
by everyone at FOD. We love you Furby!
